Blue Forty Two, Set… Omaha, Set, Hike”
Football is back, and I understand it is a challenge to watch golf but don’t you worry, The Aloha Press Newsletter has your back.
Besides, golf lacks the excitement without a Major Championship, fans drinking too many glasses of merlot, or a legend getting it done on a Sunday. Wait a minute. We had all of that and a few more highlighted headlines this week. So let's roll.
The PGA Tour ventured to the smokey Safeway Open in Napa, California for its first official event of the new 2020-2021 season. It was an exciting finish and got to see some pretty good golf coming down the final few holes.
Stewart Cink was crowned the Napa Valley winner after a finishing round of 65 and shooting -21 under for the tournament. Cink battled Harry Higgs and his deep V polo on the back nine, but Higgs was unable to make eagle on 18 to force a playoff.
Napa had fans sipping the good stuff because Cink, Higgs, Streelman, and Sam Burns were getting cat calls from groupies all around the course.
Cink has not won since his Open Championship in 2009 when he beat Tom Watson in a playoff. Cink proved to me I still have a chance to make the tour! Cink is 47 and added to his total career earnings of $38 Million. I just hope he can defend his victory next year, unlike Cameron Champ.

LPGA ANA Inspiration Major Championship…(Or Backboard Classic?)
LPGA took on its second major championship this year in Rancho Mirage, California. It was missing the smoke, but it did not lack the heat. In the final round the ladies were using a backboard to get it close on the final 18th hole.
How would you play if you had a backboard?
But the big back board played to Korea’s Mirim Lee advantage because she chipped in three times on Sunday to lock down a playoff against Canadian Brooke Henderson and USA Nelly Korda.
Lee ended the playoff hole by making birdie and claiming her first major championship and dove into the famous Poppies Pond. Okay her caddie dove, but she more like fell. She might have been nervous because she was wearing a white polo and black bra. Did no one warn her?
